Set to make its debut at theFrankfurt Motor Show
next month, with sales starting here in early 2012, the ninth-generation of the Japanese firm’s compact family car has made some huge leaps forward in an attempt to steal sales from the Ford Focus. We’ll have to wait until Frankfurt to see the finished model, but these official pictures of a prototype at least give an idea of how the new model is shaping up.
While it won’t be as much of a visual departure as the current car was over its predecessor, there have been plenty of tweaks beneath the surface. Honda says its engineers have concentrated on improving the Civic’s ride and handling, with significant changes to the rear suspension set-up.
As with the outgoing model, the new car uses a torsion beam arrangement – which is more compact than a multi-link system (as used by the Focus and Volkswagen Golf), and should ensure impressive rear seat space and luggage room.
Thanks to the incorporation of fluid-filled bushes, Honda says it has improved the Civic’s ride, making it more comfortable over bumps. Engineers have also strengthened the car’s suspension components for better precision and stability, particularly at higher speeds.
Under the bonnet, the majority of models will be powered by a revised 2.2-litre diesel, while a smaller 1.4-litre oil-burner will also appear alongside revised i-VTEC petrol units.
Honda has revised its diesel engine in the next generation Civic hatchback. It's now cleaner and more powerful.
Wake up! This is lightly important news because the CO2 in the 2.2-litre i-DTEC engine drops from 129g/km to 110g/km, making a showroom-fresh 2012 Honda Civic tax-free for the first year and just £20 a year from then on.
Along with this drop in CO2, it's also been treated to a tiny dollop of power too. The revised unit now produces 148bhp, up from the old four-pot's 138bhp. And this adheres to an oft-quoted TG truism: more is better.
These increments, that make it slightly cleaner and more powerful than a 2.0-litre TDCI Ford Focus, have been made possible using subtle forms of engine witchcraft: the oil flow through the engine has been ‘managed' to reduce circulation loss, engine materials have been revised for less friction and Honda has installed start/stop technology. The Civic was also blasted extensively in the wind tunnel to improve the car's aero, reducing drag and refining high speed stability.
Katsushi Watanabe, dev lead for the new engine said: "Reducing the emissions was our key target and we're proud to say that we have achieved this without compromising the high performance character of the engine.
"We want our customers to have fun when they drive this car", he added.
The new Civic - the ninth generation of Honda's hatch - will make its worldwide debut at the Frankfurt motor show next month, ahead of an ‘early 2012' UK on sale date. Hopefully with a slightly more visually pleasing body than the one you see above.

Honda has also made extensive use of UK roads to fine-tune the Civic's ride comfort on our bumpy tarmac. Sales of the new model will start in January 2012.

Imi place foarte mult interiorul, nu pot zice de ce dar imi place. La fel si spatele, nu arata chiar foarte rau dar bara fata ma dezamageste, bucata aia neagra de plastic nevopsit imi zgarie retina. Cand am vazut ultima poza direct la Dacia m-am gandit

da, plasticul ala din fata chiar nu stiu de cel-au pus in alta culoare, dar nu cred ca e mare chestie sa fie vopsit in culoarea masinii. Oricum cred ca o vor face singuri cat de curand dupa criticile primite

Fiecare are dreptul la opinie asa ca nu imi fac griji. In afara de stopuri spatele nu difera foarte mult de Civicul actual, la interior e cam la fel treaba, cea mai mare transformare a primit-o partea fata.

Cel putin in poze, dupa mine, e FUGLY.
Interiorul l-au distrus in ultimul hal, dupa cum urmeaza:
- volanul... imi provoaca sila spre deosebire de volanul FK2-ului, care imi provoaca instant hard-on
- consola de pe usa soferului... au rotunjit tot ce-au putut pe masina asta, da' butoanele alea n-au putut sa le faca decat cu muchii de sa te tai in ele, nu?
- oare butonul de avarii puteau sa-l faca ceva mai mare? Serios! Puteau? De ce n-au vopsit masina rosie ca sa deseneze un triunghi alb mare pe plafon?
Exteriorul imi repugna prin:
- profilul aripilor spate... WTF?!?
- rear bumper... frate! Ce-au avut cu spatele ala? Nu le-au ajuns banii sa plateasca designerul s-o si termine?!? Gizas! N-are pic de sare si/sau piper/personalitate.
Acum de bine. La interior ne place:
- schimbatorul de viteze si ceasurile de bord
- felul in care pilo... soferul e inconjurat de interior
- consola centrala, chiar daca nu mai miroase a Honda ci a nemtoaica.
La exterior ne place:
- aproape tot, mai putin "urechiusa" de scrumbie de pe plafon, aripile spate si rear bumper-ul (din pacate astea din urma o fac sa fie FUGLY/FUBAR... in ochii mei)

Cum arata din spate si in interior mie imi place, in schimb bara fata Dar la fel cum s-a intamplat si cu modelul precedent cand l-au prezentat o sa se formeze tabere.
Ramane de vazut cum o sa arate cu un Type-R kit
Per total masina imi place, am ceva emotii cu privire la calitatea materialelor din interior, dar ramane de vazut asta...ce nu imi place sunt: bara spate, dadea foarte bine "fagurele" de pe vechiul model (cu toate ca si la acesta au renuntat odata cu faceliftul asa-zis), volanul care e prea gros si are niste butoane are urate pe el, butoanele de inchidere/deschidere geamuri (prea simple, prea patratoase), stopurile spate care ies inafara prea mult, nu mai are suportul acela la pedalier din aluminiu, butonul de avarii chiar e prea mare....iar ca nota personala mie imi place bara aia fata in 2 culori .

Nu, bre! Dar sa-i dea un pic de culoare, de personalitate, de stil. Aia-i doar o bucata de plastic indoit cu doua pete mici si rosii. O insertie de culoare, ceva... sa nu simti ca esti iarna pe campie.

Da, colegu, stiu ca e de Type-R, insa diferentele de concept intre volanul de FN2 si cel de FK2 le numeri pe degetele unui ciung, iar cele dintre volanul de FK2 si cel de... cum i-o zice asteia noi... le numeri pe degetele unui miriapod. Da, ok, amandoua au un airbag bombat, dar pe aici se opresc asemanarile, daca ma intrebi pe mine.

Nu arata rau, dar imi place mai mult cea pe care o am. Cu versiunea asta au cam dat-o in "comercial", as zice. La exterior, nu imi place spatele nici sa ma bati cu lantul. Fata e ok. La interior, nu arata chiar rau, dar mi se pare un pic incarcat.Volanu e de "ceasu' rau, pisica neagra"
Acum vine durerea: 2CP in plus la motorul pe benzina? WTF? I-DTEC-ul de 150CP suna binisor, dar putea sa mai aiba macar vreo 10-15 CP in plus. E loc, se stie asta.Sper sa fi rezolvat problemele cu ambreiajul .
Ramane de vazut pretul si evident, comportamentul in viata reala.
Dupa umila mea parere, incep sa piarda grav la capitolul design. Poate asta se doreste. Ca performante, nu vin cu nimic sa te dea pe spate. Cred ca vor o masina care sa se vanda, nu pe care s-o iubesti si care sa fie o "extensie" a ta.

Nu ascult tot timpul Rammstein, dar atunci cand se intampla, asculta si vecinii...
